Suggestions for clubs and new hams.
Bob Dixon
I wrote this a while back, and tried to get QST and CQ to publish it, with no success.

The lack of response is an indication of the problems today.

I disagree. Not everyone is an ARRL member, and of all the members, not everyone is in this forum to reply. I have many amateur radio friends that don’t own a computer, but they come to our club meetings to hang out and help out with new jams that have just got their license via our clubs test sessions.

Matthew,
So Bob has an idea which seems mostly positive to me But you disagree with it because it will fail to recognize EVERYONE or did I misunderstand why you disagree ? And Not everyone is in this forum so it's a bad idea again am I misunderstanding ? Steve KG5VK |

Steven,
No, I kinda misunderstood the comment regarding "The lack of response is an indication of the problems today." I was thinking this comment was made about the lack of responses to the thread, regarding the article. My mistake. The article and ideas in it are nice and I enjoyed reading it!. Sorry for the confusion. |

Bob Thank you for the suggestions. I am going to use some in future columns I write for the ARRL Ohio Section Journal (OSJ). By the way, the monthly OSJ usually runs over 50 pages, it not just for Ohio Section members and is available for free to anyone interested via email- http://arrl-ohio.org/forwarder/forwarding.html Anthony On Wed, Feb 12, 2020 at 7:48 PM Bob Dixon <w8erdbob@...> wrote: I wrote this a while back, and tried to get QST and CQ to publish it, with no success. --

Sometimes topics get buried by other topics, and need a bump in activity before it gets popular. On Thu, Feb 13, 2020 at 5:57 PM Rob Okray KD9NXQ via Groups.Arrl.Org <robokray=yahoo.com@...> wrote: The lack of response is an indication of the problems today. |

I would guess that it wasn't published because QST/CQ articles need to be follow specific guidelines, and not bullet points (http://www.arrl.org/qst-author-guide). Do you have a full article? I have written many an article directed at seasoned and aged hams to help usher in a new generation of hams, while I was ARRL Youth Editor (https://n0ssc.com/blogs/arrlyouthcolumns), and now at https://n0ssc.com/. I have covered almost all of these topics in detail, especially following up on new licensees, and ARRL Foundation scholarship recipients. Awards is something that I've overlooked, and I think that would be a good idea. However I think a lot of folks just don't mind. It's a constant struggle to inspire both the current generation, and future generations to get into ham radio (and not just to get a license for when SHTF).
Caveat emptor; it takes a LOT of work to keep things rolling. Ask any successful club president, and they'll say: the moment your club is chugging along well, and think you can take it easy and relax and let everyone else take care of programs and services, they'll somehow get the same idea and bang! Stagnation. -Sterling N0SSC On Wed, Feb 12, 2020 at 6:48 PM Bob Dixon <w8erdbob@...> wrote: I wrote this a while back, and tried to get QST and CQ to publish it, with no success. |
