VUCC Rule 6

I’m sure this topic has been covered in the past so let me apologize in advance for anyone that has to read it again.

Rule 6 states:

For VUCC awards on 50 through 1296 MHz and Satellite, all contacts must be made from locations no more than 200 km apart. For SHF awards, contacts must be made from a single location, defined as within a 300-meter diameter circle.

My concern is the 200 km portion. In many discussions online operators believe their contacts have to be made within 200 km of your home QTH or grid.

Or is it the intent of the rule that contacts made from any location that you are operating from that are with a 200 km count.

Again my apologies if this has been covered in the group already.

Any QTH's that are within 200 km count. If you feel you could best achieve VUCC from a location 1000 km from your home QTH, go for it. Any additional QSO's should be within 200 km of that location.

For the higher bands, people often get VUCC from hilltops. My favorite hilltop is 70 km from home. I haven't worked on getting all the confirmations for VUCC from that location yet, but I have enough QSO's from there to get VUCC on every band 2304 through 10 GHz.

Thanks for reply, that’s what I thought. I work satellites and that’s gunna be more of a challenge 200 km is kinda close, I only have a few grids that qualify so it’s definitely going to take some roving.

That looks like a poorly written rule. Let's say I have made all my contacts for VUCC from location #1. Then I go to location #2 that is 195 km west of location #1, and make some contacts. All good, they're all no more than 200 km apart, and still count for the same VUCC award. Then I go to location #3 that is 10 km east of location #1 and make some more contacts. Now all three locations don't count for the same VUCC award because location #2 is 205 km from location #3, more than 200 km apart.

Well that’s why I wanted clarification… it says LOCATIONS no more than 200 km apart. It’s seemed pretty clear to me but there is plenty of confusion online for sure.
