VUCC Awards

Wondering what the current timeframe is for issued new VUCC awards? Applied for a new 432mhz VUCC award on January 26th and the credit card was charged $17 for the new award. Should I start to worry or make directed inquiries to the ARRL yet?

Thanks Al N9ISN

Al,
I would ask.  I've applied for, and received one for 6m in that interval.  Keep in mind everyone, that the new web site is a good thing, but any changes, perfect or not, are going to stress customer care resources.

With any issue at the League right, I would be patient and persistent in a realistic context.  There are lots of moving parts, new things for members and staff alike, and changes as well as hiccups require a period of adjustment. Just assume that everyone is adjusting.

A follow up! Sharon at the ARRL contacted me directly after I posted this
and was able to check on some things. She issued the award this morning and
my VUCC account reflects the new award. It will be shipped this week.
Excellent news! And I appreciate Sharon for reaching out to me to look into
this.
Its a good Monday!

Al,

Thank you for reporting this! Why have these groups if the HQ staff isn’t using them? I’m delighted to know that the VUCC contact was proactive here.

Congratulations and 73,

Frank  K4FMH,
HQ staff do monitor the dialogue, but generally do not reply on the list. W5OV is a notable exception when there is something specific to contribute.

The HQ staff takes the dialogue seriously, but in order to be effective, they need to work the issues that are raised, reply to those who queried, and not get tied up with debates.  This is not policy per se, but this has been observed and experienced by me on several occasions.  I do note, that being reasonable and polite does get more effective results.  The world and the systems of the ARRL are not perfect, but we can be constructive in how we seek to improve things.

And there are numerous ARRL Field Organization members who monitor (and participate) in these groups.

Frank K4FMH,
Yes, and thank you!
No offense taken!

For folks who might have misunderstood, I wanted to cut off snide comments about the League staff.  It seems that no good deed, or positive comment, goes unpunished!  :-)

Here's some good news...

Today, I took the plunge and logged into the new web site and registered seamlessly.  It went well, but with a few small bumps that were, or will be smoothed out shortly.

I did have a question about reviewing and changing my profile, so I called the League.  After a very brief wait, a HQ staffer, (John?) was helpful and efficient in guiding me to the Store tab.  I'm not sure that would have been my first choice in a web site redesign, but it makes sense in that you would want the centrality of account security to be focused on anything financial.  From there, credentials for other less critical profile elements can be distributed.

I had also tried to register for a course, and that is when I found that the credential flow to the training platform is not up to snuff quite yet.  The main login credentials are to flow to the learning platform, but currently they are not.

The HQ staffer transfered me to Steve Goodgame, the League's new Lifelong Learning manager.  A brief voicemail was left, and ten minutes later my phone rang with Steve on the phone explaining that the issue was being worked and that it should be resolved in a day or so.  That is awesome customer service!

In summary, this is a complex platform conversion and part of an overall media management evolution.  Things are going well, but with some bumps that dedicated people are addressing.  Be patient, document issues so that they can be resolved and get on the air for a pleasant QSO!
