WAS for Dummies
Dave Sellars
Bruce & Dave.
You are correct regarding setting up a WAS account. It must be set up by the user. The others are set up automatically by LOTW. I don't understand why, but there must be a reason/s. I checked the accounts set up by LOTW and they appeared to be functioning
as they should. That is, those awards presented lists that reflected credit for QSOs worked/confirmed.
Upon discovering that the accounts set up by LOTW were working whereas the account set up by me was not working, I decided to delete my WAS account and set up another one. Oh yeah, I also noticed that the accounts set up by LOTW contained my call sign whereas
the account set up by me contained my name but not my callsign. I also set up a rule requiring the use of my callsign.
As far as I can tell, at this time, LOTW likes my new account and is reporting QSO credit for selected awards accordingly.
I have been a licensed ham since the late 60s but was inactive between 1984 and last year.
As a result, I'm dealing with a steep learning curve right now, but I'm making steady progress thanks to guys like you who are willing to help when I need it.
Thanks again.

Hey Dave.
Followed your directions and easily got to the list of states. HOWEVER no call signs are given for any of the states.
I also note that the information provided above the list indicates the following:''
Award Credits: Selected:0 Applied For: 0 Awarded:0 TOTAL:0
That suggests to me that I failed to complete another action (Applied For) in order that completed QSOs would be indicated for states "worked'.
So what have I missed or failed to do?
Thanks again.

HI Dave.
Under the Awards tab, does your left menu resemble this?
LoTW automatically defaults to my WAS account called “ZL2IFB-WAS”. Does yours have a default WAS account? Are there any WAS accounts you can pick in the top of those three WAS buttons, then click the <Select WAS Award Account> button?
If not, <Create New WAS Award Account> lets us create a WAS account and (optionally) make it the default.
Read the notes on the next screen after you click that button: you’ll see that you need to tell the system which QSOs to apply to the WAS account. This is done so if you move home/shack QTH beyond the radius permitted in the WAS rules (50km? 100km? I forget), you can start collecting states from your new QTH for your next WAS award. [Check the WAS rules for details.]

Hey Gary.
Thanks for the reply. After clicking the "Select WAS Award Account" button I get 5 boxes labeled as follows:
WAS Award New LOTW QSLs LOTW QSLs in Progress WAS Credits Awarded TOTAL
None of the boxes have lines under them so that clicking on them results in no action.
Obviously, I have missed something along the way. I set up a WAS account - or at least I thought I did (Dave Digital WAS). I am a paid participant so that shouldn't be an issue.
One ham advised me to print a list of the states and go through my log and manually check off the "worked" states. Obviously, I can do that, but it is cumbersome and not user friendly.
I was under the impression that LOTW would provide a list of "worked" states, countries, etc. from the QSOs logged. However, that may not be correct.
Thanks again. Dave - KB4JB

I have 111 QSOs listed in my account, all but about 20 are US states. Is there a way to get a list of those states that have been worked and confirmed? I will use that list to identify "needed" states in JTAlert. Thanks - 73 Dave - KB4JB. |
