I think you meant April 2021 and not April 2020. Staff was not in the building in April 2020.

And you are right - it was changed by headquarters without member input. Now we are reversing that based on member input.

I will not go into further details other than there is new management in that department.

How many layers of management does it have to be reviewed by?

I will not hide the fact that this is something I am more than upset about.

There was some shabby decision making when the plaques were changed WITHOUT consulting the membership.

Forever what reason they changed they could have at least made the plaque different than the certificate.

I have also seen where the endorsement stickers (yes stickers folks) have even changed design in mid-stream.

We have heard the members loud and clear. Senior management at HQ are currently in the process of reviewing the awards with an eye toward making them better quality.

The exact changes I cannot share right now but as a recent recipient of triple play myself I agree that we can do a lot better.

I was going to obtain a REAL wood plaque base ($14 on etsy.com) to mount it on, but first the plastic hook on the back would need to go.  Guess what?  The hook is GLUED DIRECTLY TO THE CERTIFICATE, not plexiglas, so removing it destroys the award.

Fortunately I saw what was happening before the hook was completely removed, but I still have a nice large scar on the certificate.

Neither of my 5BDXCC or Challenge "plaques" are numbered.

Your statement is accurate, or at least was, in case they have started numbering them again.

If you will look on the ARRL site, you will find that the 5BDXCC award in now a certificate. The 5BDXCC “Plaque” is now a piece of plexiglass, which in fact looks almost identical to the certificate. The wood plaque is gone. Your choice, plastic or paper the look the same. For the $60.00(?) for the plaque you can get the $12.00 certificate, and buy a $10.00 plexiglass frame at Wally World and save $40.00. My understanding is the plexiglass is not numbered (I could be wrong on this). Challenge “Plaque” is plastic also.  I received no pin for my 5BDXCC.  Saw none offered.

Until the members rise up and speak out, the program will suffer.

Re: 5B DXCC and WAS Medallions

I had the same disappointing experience this week with a new Triple Play award.  I spent the extra money for a "laminated plaque" and got a piece of acrylic with the certificate glued to the back.

My real problem started when I tried to remove the plastic hanger on the back so I could mount the "plaque" on a board to make it look more presentable.  The hanger was glued directly to the certificate, so now I'm worse off than when I started with an ugly scar on the certificate where the adhesive came off.

I don't understand why, since we're paying for it, ARRL doesn't offer us decent options.

You can also verify that your application has been sent. Go to Awards, Select VUCC account, and in the left hand menu select "Application History." It should verify that the application has been sent. Then it's a matter of the staff accepting the application, updating the records, and sending your certificate.

Congratulations!
