If DXCC is a competition, where every competitor strives to "get more DX" than every other competitor, then.........

.....why did DXers invent (and wildy embrace) the "one ringer", the packet cluster, the DX Summit, and similar devices and methods to share their "catches" and thus dilute their advantage on the competition?

+ No one claimed that *every* DXer is competitive to the point of not with-holding information from fellow DXers. Many DXers aren't competitive at all, focused only on the best they can personally accomplish. Some enjoy "tag team DXing" with their friends. Others are competitive with respect to their entity totals, but are happy to help other DXers with tips and spots.

+ The ultimate proof that some DXer's are competitive: cheating. Why would a DXer only interested in their best personal accomplishment submit for DXCC award credit a QSL card for a 17m QSO modified to make it look like a 160m QSO is being confirmed?
